The PPS submachine gun was designed by Leningrad engineer A. I. Sudayev in 1942. The PPS43 model is a very cool old school Soviet sub-gun using an open bolt firing design and was originally chambered in 7.62 Tokarev. Conceived as a more cost-effective version of the PPSH-41, an estimated 2 million were produced by 1946. Due to the more simplistic design, it was estimated that 350,000 units could be made per month. Strangely, even with the material and time savings, it was manufactured in parallel with the PPSH-41. The simple sheet metal tank-style brake and top folding stock is something you don't see on most sub guns.
The PPS43 started out as a Polish parts kit with a new receiver. Phoenix Weaponry then welded it together in the original areas and set the head space. There were some of the internal small parts that needed to be re-manufactured. New pivot pins for the receiver were machined and an original style brake was re-manufactured.
